In the adjacent Feeding Tab, you will find a brief overview of what worms like and don t like to eat. Even more important is to give your Worms a good watering: at least one or two pints of water sprinkled liberally over the entire surface area of the Working Tray as soon as possible.</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><B>Food: </B></DIV> <DIV>Smaller bits are better when it comes to adding food to your Vermicomposter You want to achieve a soft food, which will break down quickly. Couple of quick tips that will help you achieve the optimum food and reduce the potential for nuisance insects like vinegar or fruit flies:</DIV> <UL> <LI> <DIV>Place the food scraps into the microwave with a little water and bring it up to about 160^. This is especially important for fruit peels that usually have fruit fly larva in the skins: this will usually destroy those larva. </DIV> </LI> <LI> <DIV>If your Cuisenart is out, give the material a quick hit either before or after the microwave.</DIV> </LI> <LI> <DIV>Store in the freezer (which will also help kill larva). We recycle our Zip Lock bags for this purpose. </DIV> </LI> <LI> <DIV>It s a good idea to have some pre-composted material ready for your working tray. A few handfuls of dried leaves and mulch from under shrubs is sufficient. BUT:</DIV> </LI> <UL> <LI> <DIV>Never use leaves from plants such bay, eucalyptus, rhubarb or magnolia trees, and never uses needles from pine, fir and cedar trees: might kill your worms. </DIV> </LI> <LI> <DIV>Avoid using poo from dogs, cats, etc. as they carry human parasites. There are other methods to deal with this material.</DIV> </LI> <LI> <DIV>Some types of poo such as bunny, lama, deer, horse, etc. are great but these should be pre-composted with grass (or similar) clippings for 30 days prior to use.</DIV> </LI></UL> <LI> <DIV>Worms need grit. Dried, pulverized egg shells or ground Oyster shells are the favorites, but sand will do. Just a small hand full per bin per month is usually sufficient.</DIV> </LI></UL> <DIV>When purchasing your worms from us, we guarantee live delivery and we take great care to insure you are receiving strong, healthy worms.&nbsp; When you receive your worms, please immediately verify that you are satisfied with your Worm Population and Health. You must do this immediately upon receipt of your worms.</DIV> <UL> <LI>Make sure you are in a covered area out of direct sunlight. </LI> <LI>When packed, the Working Tray (the tray containing the Vermicompost and Worms) will have been placed with one empty tray under it - and between - the Tea Collection Base. </LI> <LI>After assembling your Worm Factory, place the Working Tray in the Tea Collection Base and give the Working Tray a good watering: at least one pint of water sprinkled liberally over the entire surface area. Allow this to set for about 15 minutes.</LI> <LI>Place an empty tray over the Working Tray and flip it over, giving a light tap on a flat surface. Typically, the entire contents of the Working Tray will fall into the new tray in one piece.</LI> <LI>You will need to be quick here, as the worms will immediately want to migrate to the bottom of the new Working Tray, but you will now have a good visual inspection - using the gardeners fork as necessary - of the population in the Tray.</LI> <LI>Do not discard the newspaper that was lining the bottom of the old Working Tray as it will probably have cocoons and babies adhering to it. Simply tear into pieces and work that in on one corner of the new Working Tray.</LI> <LI>When you have completed your inspection, cover the worms with one or two sheets of wet newspaper or wet (aged and clean) burlap. </LI></UL> <DIV>Should you wish to return your Kit, you must contact us within 4 hours of delivery to receive a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).&nbsp; Write your <SPAN class=SpellE>RMA</SPAN> number on your shipping tag, repackage the Kit, attach the new shipping tag over the old, original shipping tag, and drop off at any authorized shipping location.&nbsp; A refund for the purchase price <SPAN class=GramE>will be posted</SPAN> within two business days of receipt of your return shipment and according to your method of payment</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>Happy Farming,</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>Dave</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <BR>
